Jenna Burchell

Jenna Burchell is a South African artist whose project-based practice centres on the creation of alternative archives that preserve and activate memory, place and lived experience. Working across sculptural sound objects, interactive installations and participatory environments, Burchell fuses digital technologies with organic materials to produce works that are both intimate and collectively resonant. Her process is guided by relational and stochastic methodologies, allowing encounters with people, landscapes and materials to shape the form and meaning of each project. Sound functions as a recurring element, drawing audiences into layered narratives that often sit at the margins of dominant histories. Burchell has exhibited widely both locally and internationally, with major projects including Homing and the ongoing Songsmith, and has participated in residencies at institutions such as the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Nirox Sculpture Park. Her work offers a sensitive and expansive approach to storytelling, foregrounding connection, presence and the preservation of fragile narratives.
